The system of checks and balances keeps any branch of government from becoming too powerful. This system was created by framers of the constitution and it stops legislative branch from becoming more powerful than the executive branch and the judicial branch. For example; the president can veto a law passed by congress but congress can override the veto with a vote of two- thirds majority vote.
