The executive branch is the second branch of government and is in article two of the constitution. This branch of government enforces the laws passed by congress. This branch includes the president and the vice president. To be a president or vice president you have to be native born, 35 years of age, and a U.S citizen for at least 14 years. The president serves only two terms and if he is removed from office, resigns, or dies the vice president will serve for the rest of the term. The house of representatives can impeach a president. This means they can vote to bring charges of serious crimes against the president. The president works together with congress but are on different sides of an issue most of the time. Congress passes laws, but the president can veto that law. This veto can be overruled by a two thirds vote. The president can also give pardons which is freedom from punishment given to people who have broken the law. The executive branch is also responsible for commanding the army, creating treaties, and conducting foreign policies.
