The Legislative branch
The legislative branch is the first branch of government and is article one of the confederation. It includes congress and is in charge of making laws. It is also responsible for approving treaties, granting money, and declaring war. In article one of the constitution it divides congress into a senate and house of representatives. The house of representatives has 435 members And the U.S census decides how many members represent each state. The U.S census is every ten years and is based on the population count. Apportionment makes sure there are only 435 members, so if one state gains one another loses one. Members must be 25 years or older, live in the state they were elected in, and they must have been a U.S citizen for at least nine years. In the senate their are two senators for every state. Senators are required to be 30 years or older, must have been a U.S citizen for at least nine years, and live in the state they represent. They serve their term for six years.
